Emotional tools for the whole family

The meltdowns. The yelling. The overwhelm.

"Use your words" doesn't work when the feeling is bigger than any word they have — and some nights you're the one barely holding it together. Big Feelings is two calm-down toolkits: one that helps your child name and move through hard emotions, and one that helps you do the same. So the whole house can finally breathe.

For your child

Help them name what they can't say.

"Use your words," we say. But what if the feeling is bigger than any word they have?

Children can't regulate what they can't recognize — and they can't recognize what's never been named. Big Feelings gives them the language, the tools, and a quiet place to put what's too big to say.

Inside the children's workbook · the method

Four ways in, on every page

Most feelings books do one thing. The Big Feelings children's workbook layers four research-informed approaches to emotional regulation into every emotion it covers.

i.

Cognitive

Naming and describing each emotion in language a child can understand and trust.

ii.

Somatic

One-minute body-based techniques that calm the nervous system directly.

iii.

Reflective

Gentle journaling prompts that build self-awareness without forcing positivity.

iv.

Expressive

Abstract coloring patterns that let a child externalize the feeling and take charge of it.

Inside the children's workbook · the eight emotions

Questions

Good things to know

Big Feelings is designed for children ages 6–12. It works for both verbal and non-verbal children, including those on the autism spectrum, with selective mutism, anxiety, or sensory needs. Younger children may enjoy the coloring with an adult reading alongside; older kids often do the reflection prompts independently.

The workbook, flashcards, and posters are all instant-download printable PDFs — you print them at home on a regular printer.

Just a printer, some paper (cardstock is nice for the cards and posters but not required), and crayons, colored pencils, or markers. The eight calming techniques themselves need no equipment at all.

Yes. The workbook is built with educators and school counselors in mind — it's evidence-informed, includes a guide for grown-ups, and the posters are designed for calm-down corner display. For classroom sets, the printable format means you can print as many copies as your students need.
